When the Dáil sits

27 sitting days left before Christmas

The Government wants the Bill through both Houses by Christmas (where it is now). Every stage in the Dáil needs a day the Dáil sits, and its provisional calendar has 27 of them left this year. A day it does not sit, for a strike or anything else, is one fewer.

A day counts as sat when the Dáil has an Official Report of its debates for it, and its panel links to it. Written answers published in a recess do not count. A day due is called not sat once its record is three days late.

Not legal advice. The Bill itself has not been drafted. The General Scheme was published on 21 September 2026 and is here as a PDF, and summarised Head by Head on The Bill; anyone assessing their own position should read it and take advice on their own dates and permissions.
